The achievement of the standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 has distinguished this cooperative by accomplishing an efficient administration and a high level of satisfaction among its clients.
Over 30 years of existence, maintaining its essence as a cooperative and enterprise simultaneously, and increasing the benefits of its associates are just some of the facts that consolidate CoopeCoronado R.L., since it undertook the search for quality through its conformance with standards ISO 9000 and ISO 14001.
In a globalized world, where a great number of companies are doing their best efforts to capture clients, Coronado took the option of being demanding in order to achieve a more efficient administration, conquer a greater market share and, at the same time guarantee the quality of its products to customers.
It received its first certification ISO-9001 for a dairy enterprise in April 2003, and in the year 2004, it received the ISO-14001 (environmental certification). These models were developed by the International Standardization Organization (ISO), with the objective of developing direct lines for the efficient management of systems; and it can, in turn, serve as a framework for continuous improvements.
“The added value received by consumers is the result of the compliance with the patterns provided by the ISO; that is, the standards have to be systematically met, and they are geared towards permanently improving the production process. At the same time, they can measure the results obtained and act accordingly; but always heading towards the perfection of the service”, as explained by the Quality Manager of CoopeCoronado R.L., Yuraima Díaz.
These procedures are directed towards organizing and optimizing the quality management processes, while evidencing that the company has a consistent system in accordance with international standards. Each one of them goes beyond providing uniform to personnel and maintaining trucks in hygienic conditions; it is actually an entire change of mentality and a conviction that fosters maximum efficiency.
“The variation of the administration from 1999 to 2004 under ISO, is perceived through the leadership implemented by the Manager Mr. Oscar Zúñiga, who has been very open to its personnel and puts new things into practice; from promoting small things like the 5 S Program, to big challenges like the certifications. The company changed its paradigm based on internal and external customer service” stated Róger Salazar, Financial Manager of Coronado.
As a result of the policies ordered by ISO, the benefits are translated not only into economic terms, but also in terms of a constant concern for the needs of each client, either the owner of a convenience store or a larger customer.
“Obtaining the ISO has been important for us, but before looking at the outward impact, we have analyzed it within the company. It was nice to know that we were the first ones in the dairy sector to obtain such certifications, but the critical issue was to compete against ourselves; otherwise, the effort could not be sustained. The financial growth we’ve had in the last 4 years is compelling evidence of the changes we have been doing. We went from C200 million profit to about C650 million. In addition, everything we have bought has been paid with our own resources. We are a profitable and financially solid enterprise” concluded Salazar.
