Its consumption has been long linked to bone strengthening. And, although this statement is completely true, milk is a much more complete and essential food than what many may know.
Milk contributes, through its components like calcium, phosphorous, magnesium and important amounts of vitamins B, A and D, to the prevention of osteoporosis, the healthy development of teeth, bones and the nervous system, and it also has the already recognized properties of yogurt for the digestive process and the prevention of cancer.
In November 2004, the Superior Council of Scientific Research (CSIC—in Spanish) from Spain, presented, during a conference cycle, the importance of milk as a basic meal with an “unarguable nutritional value”, as reported in the website www.consumaseguridad.com.
“Milk has a high content of nutrients, proteins, fat, lactose and mineral salts, and it is the best source of calcium in the diet, not only for its amount, but also for its availability in a large number of products with different sensorial texture properties” stated Mercedes Ramos, researcher of CSIC to the website www.consumaseguridad.com.
The human body contains about 1200 g of calcium. Every day, there is an important and continuous mobilization of this mineral that reaches the 700 mg, which are exchanged and re-absorbed by the bones.
“The bone is the place for the storage of calcium in the body, and it is continually yielding calcium to the blood, which distributes it to the heart, the muscles and the nervous system. This is how calcium, that is mainly present in dairy products, participates in other functions of the human body such as blood coagulation, regulation of enzymatic systems and the control of nervous excitability and muscular contraction”, explained Yuraima Díaz, Quality Manger of CoopeCoronado.
"Coronado offers calcium rich products, as long lasting whole milk, powder whole milk, semi-skimmed milk, long lasting flavored milk, Coronado Turrialba cheese, Coronado American cream cheese and Coronado liquid yogurt, which are number one in the market due to their delicious taste.
