Benefits of Calcium: a main milk component
According to recent studies, calcium, one of the main components of milk, is one of the nutrients that should always be kept in the daily diet.

Calcium: Some of its benefits are:

●It strengthens bones.  The main argument to consume more calcium is to prevent osteoporosis (bone weakness that can cause fractures).  The best thing is to take calcium, mainly through milk, when one is young and the bones will grow strong; but it is never late to begin.

●It relieves Pre-menstrual Syndrome.  Pre-menstrual Syndrome can take place partly due to calcium deficiency.  Women that have this condition from moderate to severe and that take 600 mg of calcium carbonate twice a day had a 48% reduction of all syndrome symptoms, including mood changes, depression, anxiety, anger, water retention, cramps and headaches.

●It fights against fat.   A low calcium diet can make fat accumulate in the body according to new evidence found by researchers from the University of Tennessee.  This theory says that the lack of calcium produces a specific gene that causes fat storage.

The study demonstrated that obese people that consumed three to four portions of milk or dairy products per day, as part of a low-calorie diet, lost more weight and fat than those that did not consume adequate levels of calcium or those that consumed calcium through supplements.

In Coronado, we offer products that, due to their low fat content and high calcium content, can be part of a healthy daily diet for overweight people; for example:  skim milk (0.1% of fat).  One serving is equivalent to 250 ml (one glass) of long lasting Coronado skim milk, and it contributes with 300 mg—that is, 37% of the daily doses of calcium recommended by FAO/WHO.
